Why You Should Avoid Cosmetic Surgery Abroad

Cosmetic Surgery Abroad Has Many Risks

For many reasons, more and more patients have chosen to undergo cosmetic surgery abroad. While the lower costs may make this seem like a good idea, there are risks associated with leaving the UK for procedures.

Picking plastic surgery UK instead of overseas means you’ll be getting a service that’s been regulated. Your surgeon will be part of a health organisation and your hospital will be able to deal with any issues as they arise.

This week a young English mother died at a cosmetic clinic in Turkey after complications associated with buttock augmentation surgery. While issues can occur in any country, in the UK the hospitals can be more equipped to help.

In this week’s blog, we look at the reasons you should choose to undergo cosmetic procedures such as facelift surgery, fat transfer or rhinoplasty here in the UK.

Cost V Reward

The main reason a patient chooses cosmetic surgery abroad is likely to be the cost. In countries such as Turkey, the price of procedures can be as little as half of that as plastic surgery UK.

Unfortunately, you often get what you pay for. The reasons costs are higher in the UK is because training and surgeon standards are often higher.

Cost should not be the sole factor in choosing your surgeon or hospital for cosmetic surgery. If you would like a quote for a procedure with Mr Ross please email the clinic.

Surgeon Training

In the UK surgeons are trained to incredibly high standards. All reputable surgeons are members of safety organisations.

As well as this, abroad you may not even meet your surgeon prior to the procedure taking place, meaning you don’t get to form a relationship.

Hospital Care

A fancy website may make your hospital look more like a spa retreat, but the truth is that cosmetic procedures are serious operations. You need to be in a regulated hospital facility.

In the UK we have excellent private hospital facilities and the staff that work in them understand how to help patients. The care you receive before and after treatment is important.

Speaking The Language

In keeping with the last point, it’s helpful to speak the language. A procedure in Europe may save you £1000 but how much do you value communication.

Some clinics abroad may not speak English, with makes communicating any wants or concerns tricky.

If Something Goes Wrong

Sometimes things go wrong. Even in the best hospitals with the best surgeons, things can go differently than expected. In the event that issues arise it’s comforting to know you can trace your surgeon or hospital to report any problems.

If you have cosmetic surgery abroad you might not be able to communicate with the surgical team. We hear many stories about botched surgeries that the clinics abroad then won’t fix – worse still, any communication regarding the matter is ignored.

Being Close To Home

Being close to home means if something doesn’t go to plan you not only have access to premium health care you also have your family and friends.

You will need someone to drive you home once you’re released from the hospital in the UK, but in Europe, you may have to fly home alone. This can be a daunting experience.

Changing Opinions about Cosmetic Surgery for Men

Popular Procedures and Cosmetic Surgery for Men

The cosmetic surgery landscape has changed vastly in the last 10 years. Most notably cosmetic surgery for men has seen a year on year rise.

It’s often thought that women are the main driving force in cosmetic procedures, however, in the UK we see more and more men seeking cosmetic treatment.

Popular cosmetic surgery for men may include fat transfer, male breast reduction, and rhinoplasty procedures.

Why Are More Men Seeking Cosmetic Surgery?

This is down to many factors. Social media and the way male celebrities are viewed within the media cannot be underestimated.

With TV shows like Love Island and The Only Way is Essex also proving popular with young men, it’s no longer just about anti ageing.

Rather than male patients all being over 50 like in times gone by many men are now seeking cosmetic procedures at a young age.

What Procedures Are Men Choosing?

This depends on the age of the men. Younger men are seeking body sculpting and facial contouring procedures, including nose jobs.

Middle-aged men who may be unhappy with their ‘dad bod’ are opting for male breast reduction surgery. For the same reason, fat removal procedures are proving popular.

For the older men visiting the clinic, we hear requests for facial rejuvenation surgery. This can include neck lift surgery, facelift surgery or blepharoplasty procedures. These include upper or lower eyelid reduction; in some cases, it’s both.

When Is The Right Time To Undergo Surgery?

This is entirely down to the patient. Some men find the surgery helps as an anti ageing solution, so will likely only seek it later in life.

For young men, it may be that they’re unhappy with their body in their twenties. Every patient’s journey is different.

What Causes The Ageing Process And The Impacts of Ageing

In this video, we discuss what causes the ageing process and the impacts of ageing. When ageing occurs the biggest effect it has on the skin is in the facial area. Many patients find that they wish to rejuvenate their skin through a face rejuvenation procedure because they are beginning to develop ageing facial skin. As the skin changes with age, it goes through several stages that can be visible on the facial area. The video provides visual aids that go into further detail about the impacts of ageing on the face and the signs that you can look for on an ageing face.

As well as the skin, the video also explains how the impacts of ageing can occur in the facial layers that are deeper than the skin surface. As a result, it has an impact on the neck, causing excess skin to occur from the ligament and cartilage changes that have occurred from ageing. There is also further detail provided about the impacts it has on the skull as ageing of the skin in the internal structures can change the shape and size of the skull. During a facial rejuvenation procedure, it’s important that muscle and nerve damage doesn’t occur as it can have a detrimental effect on patients.

Can Fat Grafting be Effective Anti-Ageing for the Face?

Fat grafting using the autologous fat transfer method as an anti ageing treatment

An increasingly popular form of fat grafting is rapidly becoming a go-to anti-ageing procedure for patients.

Autologous fat transfer can be completed as a stand-alone procedure or as part of a wider treatment plan. They can be used to provide facial volume and rejuvenate the face.

Unlike non-surgical facial rejuvenation treatments like dermal fillers, the results of fat grafting using autologous fat transfer are long-lasting.

Why choose this anti ageing treatment?

Many patients choose this alternative to facial filler because the results are incredibly natural looking. It is also ideal for patients that wish to try an alternative to dermal fillers and volumising injections.

What is fat grafting?

This is a cosmetic procedure designed to move fat from one area to another to provide volume. In the case of facial rejuvenation, fat is taken from the body and replaced in an area of the face.

What areas of the face is it suitable for?

Areas of the face that can be rejuvenated using autologous fat transfer include the cheeks, lower face and neck.

Because fat grafting uses a natural product there is less chance of reaction and complications.

What does fat grafting involve?

Fat is taken from an area of the body and replaced to an area of the face that requires volume or smoothing. It is common to take fat from the abdomen or hips.

This form of aesthetic treatment takes around an hour, and no overnight stay is required.

To ascertain suitability you’ll need to book a consultation to meet with Mr Ross.

Are the results of fat grafting long lasting?

They most certainly can be and most patients are happy with the results of their fat transfer treatments.

Results can last for a few years and look perfectly natural. Treatment may need to be completed again in the future to maintain the results.

Some patients also choose to combine fat transfer with surgical facial rejuvenation procedure like facelift surgery.

Who offers fat grafting anti ageing treatments?

Fat grafting is only available from a medical professional trained to offer autologous fat transfer. Mr Ross has advanced training in this type of anti ageing procedure and uses the Body-jet device.

What are the risks and side effects of this treatment?

All cosmetic procedures carry some risk. Patients may experience some bruising or swelling. Results will not be seen in full for a few weeks, which you should keep in mind after undergoing this type of treatment.

6 Benefits of Neck Lift Surgery

The Best Reasons To Undergo Neck Lift Surgery

Neck lift surgery falls under the facial rejuvenation procedure umbrella. It’s a popular and common form of cosmetic surgery designed to make the neck look more youthful.

Both men and women are suitable for this type of anti ageing surgery. Neck lift surgery patients are usually over 40.

The reasons for undergoing neck lift surgery may vary, but there are six undeniable benefits to choosing it.

Below you will find some of the top benefits for picking a neck lift as part of your facial rejuvenation makeover. If you would like more information about neck lifting or anti ageing surgery please email the clinic.

Reduces Excess Skin

Like many facial rejuvenation procedures such as a facelift, neck lift surgery reduces excess skin.  During surgery, sagging skin is removed to enable muscles below to be tightened.  This collectively gives a smoother, more toned appearance to the neck and lower face.

Minimises The Appearance Of Wrinkles

Unlike dermal fillers which soften fine lines, neck lift surgery can minimise the appearance of deep wrinkles around the lower face and neck.  This helps the patient appear more youthful and is a successful form of anti ageing.

Tightens Underlying Muscles

Once the excess skin has been removed the muscles below are tightened. This ensures a smoother result.  After the muscles have been tightened the lower face and neck should appear more youthful.  While this procedure doesn’t stop the ageing process, it does keep the neck looking younger for longer.

Diminishes The Appearance Of Platysmal Bands

A common complaint regarding the aesthetic of the neck is platysmal bands. This is especially common in older female patients.  Platysmal bands are the two strips of muscles that start at the base of your neck. They run up the front left and right sides of the neck.  Neck lift surgery can help to reduce the appearance of these bands, leaving the neck looking smoother.

Contours The Chin And Jawline

Not only can neck lift surgery reduce sagging skin and smooth jowls, it is also a contouring tool.  Contouring the chin and jawline, neck lift surgery is a facial rejuvenation procedure that sculpts the lower face.  This provides definition and a more youthful lower face. This can take years off a person’s appearance.

Long Lasting Results

One of the main benefits that patients enjoy is the long-lasting results. A neck lift can help keep further ageing at bay, although it cannot stop ageing altogether.

Generally speaking, someone who has had a neck lift will look more youthful than someone of the same age that hasn’t.
The results of neck lift surgery and facial rejuvenation surgery offer long-lasting results, often up to 10 years.

Breast Augmentation Removal With Skin Firming & Tightening

Introducing our next video in the vlog series, we dig deeper into the procedure of breast augmentation removal when patients choose to get a breast revision after a previous breast surgery procedure. In some cases, when a patient goes through a breast enhancement procedure, over time the breast augmentation results can change for several reasons causing patients to consider breast augmentation removal.

Before going through a breast augmentation removal, there are several aspects that need to be considered during the consultation. During the assessment, the following examinations are taken into consideration:

– Mobility for the patient
– Any visible medical ruptures
– Additional swelling around the breasts
– Fluid around the implants
– Irregularity from the original results

A case study is provided in the video which shows the results of a patient’s breast augmentation surgery. The results show that the breasts over time, have been weighed down by the breast implants causing them to drop low on the patient’s chest and develop a large nipple-areola complex. In which case, the patient opted to have a breast augmentation removal only but also wished to have their breasts appear fuller and higher on the chest. In order to accomplish the results, a skin tightening procedure to lift the breasts had taken place and this also improved the size of the areola complex for the patient.

The results of the breast augmentation removal showed the patient’s breasts appearing higher on the chest and the nipple-areola complex appeared reduced. In order for the breasts to be lifted, the skin required to be tightened through a skin tightening procedure where the excess skin was used to lift the breasts.

Having Fat Transfer To Your Breasts After Abdominoplasty Surgery

For the next installment in our vlog series, we look deeper into abdominoplasty surgery and how the excessive skin tissue that’s removed after the surgery can be utilised to perform a fat transfer to your breasts. After an abdominoplasty surgery, when fat is removed from the abdominal region there can be excessive tissue that is left behind. This is normally disposed of as it’s no longer needed. However, as an alternative to breast implants a fat transfer to your breasts can take place so that the excessive skin tissue that was removed can be utilised by combining it with the excess fat.

In the video, a case study is shown of how a patient went through abdominoplasty surgery and chose to have the loose abdominal skin fat purified and injected into her breasts. Her breasts appear younger and fuller whilst the removal of excess skin from the abdominal region tightens the loose skin that the patient had. There’s also further information provided on how long the procedure can take as it can differ depending on the amount of excess skin that the patient has an how large the patient wishes to have their breasts. It’s advised for those who wish to have their breasts appear fuller through a fat transfer, they should do so when they have the abdominoplasty so there’s more fat to utilise.

If you’d like more information on abdominoplasty surgery then you can get in touch by contacting us here or by calling 0161 401 4064. You can also visit our abdominoplasty case study page to see more examples of results from our performed treatments.

Vaginal rejuvenation surgery and intimate cosmetic procedures

Advice regarding vaginal rejuvenation surgery following on from media reports

Last week the FDA launched a review of the way some vaginal rejuvenation surgery devices and treatments are marketed. The news from America quickly made its way to the UK, and left people asking questions with regards to intimate cosmetic procedures.

The US regulators of cosmetic treatments ruled that several device companies that offer vaginal rejuvenation surgery procedures were using underhand marketing ploys to sell the treatments to patients.

Many devices using for skin rejuvenation procedures are not actually approved for intimate use, the FDA explained in a media statement.

“These products have serious risks and don’t have adequate evidence to support their use for these purposes,” said Dr. Scott Gottlieb, the FDA commissioner. “We are deeply concerned women are being harmed.”

Rather than improve vaginal issues, some cosmetic procedures using energy-based devices have resulted in vaginal burns, scarring, pain during intercourse, or chronic pain, the FDA said.

The association also explained it has sent letters to seven makers of vaginal laser devices, giving them 30 days to respond to concerns and provide scientific proof these devices provide safe treatments.

Why are women seeking vaginal rejuvenation treatments?

Women may seek intimate treatments to improve the symptoms of vaginal atrophy, as a result of the menopause, child birth or cancer treatment.

Symptoms can include vaginal dryness and itchy, and stress urinary incontinence.

Treatment of vaginal atrophy and SUI is not the same as cosmetic treatments, designed to be offer cosmetic changes. These may include ‘tightening’ of the vagina internally or skin tightening.

Who to speak to about vaginal atrophy

There are treatments out there that can help to relieve the symptoms of vaginal atrophy but you need to seek the advice of an expert in this field.

If you are worried about your intimate health, in the first instance it’s best to visit your GP. He/she may then refer you to a gynaecologist; these medical professionals specialise in this area of the body and will better placed to help you.

Remember – every body is different, and what’s normal for one person isn’t the same for another. Everyone looks different and unless you have a medical issue there is usually little reason to under go any surgery like this.

More information

If you have any questions or concerns with regards to laser treatments of this kind please speak to a gynaecologist or relevant medical professional.
