Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty Case Study 5

This patient has had previous surgery to her abdominal wall and excessive fat in the upper part of her abdomen. A fleur de Lys abdominoplasty leads to a vertical scar in combination with a horizontal scar. The previous scar has been removed and the vertical excision allows a better definition of the abdomen. Liposuction has also been performed although often liposuction in this scenario is better performed at a second stage. This image is seen 4 months postoperatively and will continue to fade over time.

All other scars can be removed and revised in the lower abdomen. A vertical scar is required where there is not a lot of excess skin. The scars can be asymmetrical due to the differing anatomy on each side of the abdomen. The patient has also had a bowel resection, many previous hernia repairs and several laparoscopic procedures. The initial postop picture photo is taken at 6 weeks months postop. The final pictures are seen several years later when the swelling has settled and the scars have faded.

Thigh Lift Case Study 7

This lady has excess skin in the inner thigh. She wished to have a tightening of the skin and a thigh lift with a scar running in the crease of the thigh has allowed the skin to be tightened. There are limitations to how much skin can be removed in this manner and the amount of tightening that can be achieved. In patients with good thigh contour this often is a better method than a long vertical scar thigh lift. The horizontal scar technique does not tighten as much as the vertical scar technique but the resulting scar is much better aesthetically and patients need to weigh up the pros and cons of each method.

Thigh Lift Case Study 3

Excess tissue of the inner thighs following weight loss. Following liposuction the excess skin has been removed in two directions both upwards (horizontally) via a groin scar and tightened by a vertical scar that runs from the inner thigh down the inner leg. Liposuction and repositioning of the inner tissues of the thigh improves the contour.

Thigh Lift Case Study 2

For patients with minimal skin excess of the inner thighs and in younger patients removal of excess skin can be achieved by an incision in the groin and buttock crease. This is scar is easily hidden and although it does not reduce volume as much as a vertical scar the scar is in a more aesthetic position. The pros and cons of this should be discussed at a consultation

Arm Lift Case Study 18

This lady has lost a considerable amount of weight and has achieved her ideal weight and been weight stable for some time. Liposuction only in the presence of excess skin is not recommended but when combined with excisional techniques can be a very good way to provide arm rejuvenation. Patients must be aware of the length of the scar and possibility that it can become stretched. The results are seen at 6 weeks when the wounds have all healed. There can still be some swelling at this stage and patients need to massage the scars which are often red at this time. Often these scars can be well hidden and improve patients quality of life greatly allowing them to wear clothes they felt they would never be seen in again.
