Things to consider when choosing facelift surgery

Choosing a facelift surgeon and undergoing facial rejuvenation surgery

Choosing to undergo facial rejuvenation surgery means picking a facelift surgeon that you feel can offer you the best service. It is important to pick a plastic surgeon who you feel has the right skills and experience to provide you with the best results possible.

A facelift can have a remarkable effect on the patient’s self-esteem and is often an option for men and women who are over the age of 45 and are unhappy with sagging skin in the mid or lower section of the face.

There are multiple benefits to choosing facelift surgery over nonsurgical options, and it is widely acknowledged that facelift procedures will have a much better long-term results for the patient.

Different types of facelift surgery

Asked with several facial rejuvenation procedure is, when it comes to a facelift there is no one size fits all procedure. There are several different types of facelift surgery which can be made available, and which one is most suitable to your needs can be determined during a consultation.

A mini facelift is designed to lift an area of the face but not the whole face. In contrast, a full facelift, otherwise known as the traditional facelift, is designed to lift the entire face. You can find out more information about both of these types of facelift surgery on the treatment pages.

Things to consider when choosing a facelift surgeon

1. Qualifications and experience – are they a member of a safety organisation like BAAPS or BAPRAS?

2. Your surgeon should be polite, helpful and understanding.

3. Does the surgeon appreciate your goals?

4. Ask to see previous cases if you feel this would help you.

5. Do not commit to undergoing facelift surgery or any other form of facial rejuvenation surgery unless you feel completely comfortable with the surgeon during consultation.

6. You should be given time to consider whether facelift surgery is indeed to the right option for you, and so a second consultation should be booked a week or so later if you wish to move forward.

Facelift surgery is not suitable for everybody and it is unlikely you will be offered this form of anti-ageing procedure if you are under 45 or deemed not needing of such treatment.

Each case should be handled individually and it is inevitably up to the patient whether he or she chooses to move forward and book facelift surgery in future.

Who Is A Good Candidate For A Body Lift Procedure?

In this video we’ll be looking at who is a good candidate for a body lift procedure, an operation that rejuvenates the abdominal area, removing excess skin and fat. It can also be referred to as a ‘belt lipectomy’ or ‘full body lift’.

Many patients feel disheartened after losing a substantial amount of weight only to be left with excess skin or fat. Therefore, patients that have accomplished significant weight loss are ideal candidates a body lift procedure, whereby they may wish to lose excess skin that’s accumulated following the changes in their body. The body lift procedure removes circumferential tissue from around the body to achieve the abdominal skin removal.

In this video we’ll take a further look into the placement of the skin removal scars. We’ll be giving a detailed view of scars after a lower body lift surgery, and also skin removal scars from the upper body part of the chest – referred to as a reverse bodylift.

We explain the difference between candidates who would benefit from a typical abdominoplasty, and those who would be more suited to a bodylift. In this instance, the patient was recommended a body lift procedure due to the excess skin on his back and sides. The images in this video are taken from our case studies featuring previous patients, clearly showing the positive results of a lower bodylift.

Skin Removal Scars With Fleur De Lis Abdominoplasty

Last week we discussed the abdominal scars from a bodylift procedure. This week, we’ll be taking a closer look into the abdominoplasty scars a patient is likely to incur during the fleur de lis abdominoplasty excess fat removal treatment.

Fleur de lis abdominoplasty is a procedure that removes more skin than a standard abdominoplasty. In this process of this excess fat removal surgery, skin on the upper part and lower part of the abdomen is removed.

This video features a previous patient that was unlikely to benefit from standard abdominoplasty, due to the amount of excess skin she had in the central part and upper part of her abdomen. Excess fat removal surgery is ideal for patients who may have developed excess skin, or for those where a standard tummy tuck may not address the excess fat issues.

The procedure will leave patients with an abdominoplasty scar that’s vertical, this should be discussed in your consultation, as the extent of the dissection can vary from patient to patient. Recovery information will also be advised upon consultation, including ways in which you can help your scars.

For further information regarding fleur de lis abdominoplasty scars, please get in touch by contacting us here or by calling 0161 401 4064. You can visit our fleur de lis case study page to see results of our performed treatments.

How to Tell If You Need a Thigh Lift

When is a thigh lift a suitable cosmetic procedure?

Thigh lift surgery is designed to recontour the upper legs. More often than not, a thigh lift is chosen to improve the appearance of the inner thighs.

Otherwise known as a thigh reduction, this cosmetic surgery procedure is commonly sought by men and women that have lost substantial amounts of weight.

Alternatively, it may be used as part of a skin rejuvenation overhaul for a patient that dislikes their thighs as a result of ageing.

How can you tell if you need a thigh lift?

Suitability is determined during a consultation. The tell-tale signs patients usually present with include sagging skin and loose, crepey skin from the knee to the groin. The inside thigh is usually the most affected part of the leg, and cannot be altered with exercise, diet or skin tightening treatments.

What happens during thigh lift surgery?

An incision is made in the inner thigh area. Excess fat and skin are removed before the wound is closed. The aim of the surgery is to create a youthful looking contour and reshape the upper thigh.

Is there risk attached?

With all cosmetic surgery, there is some risk, including swelling, bruising, poor wound healing and issues as a result of anaesthetic. Scarring is a given, but most patients find the results are satisfactory and the scar is a fair trade for smoother thighs. The scar usually runs along the inner thigh and is placed to be as hidden as possible.

Where is thigh lift surgery performed?

Thigh reduction surgery always takes place in a hospital. Your plastic surgeon will advise you where the surgery will take place and who will be involved in the procedure. There is usually a small team helping.

Can thigh lifting be performed with other body contouring procedures?

Yes, it’s not uncommon for the thigh lift to be undertaken as part of a wider body rejuvenation surgery. Commonly it’s done as part of body lift surgery, where the torso and arms may also be reshaped surgically.

Are there non-surgical thigh reduction alternatives?

Yes, but these will not be suitable if you have large amounts of loose skin. Often patients try non-surgical alternatives before realising that surgery is the only long-term solution to unwanted sagging and loose skin.

Who to choose for thigh reduction procedures

There are multiple techniques plastic surgeons now use that allow them to customise thigh lift procedures to the bespoke needs of each individual patient. Your surgeon will work with you to create a personalised surgical plan that suits your unique needs and goals so you can enjoy more aesthetically pleasing legs.

Gary Ross talks to BBC 5 Live about buttock augmentation

The pros and cons of undergoing buttock augmentation

This week Mr Gary Ross featured on BBC 5 Live discussing buttock augmentation.

The interview, recorded live on the popular breakfast show, highlighted the pros and cons of undergoing procedures, including the Brazilian Bumlift.

The topic hit headlines again recently with reports of a US doctor fraudulently undertaking ‘bum lift’ procedures. Known as Dr Bum Bum, the disgraced expert is currently being taken to court for treating patients irresponsibly. The court case continues in America.

Why choose buttock augmentation?

The procedure comes in several forms, but the goal is to change the shape or size of the buttocks. This is usually involves one or more augmentation or enhancement methods.

The subject of buttock augmentation continues to be a contentious one. While there are many patients who benefit physically and mentally from undergoing this type of cosmetic surgery, there are many points to consider prior to the procedure.

You can find out more about this type of body contouring surgery, including suitability, via the treatment pages. A full consultation is needed before any treatment can take place.

Mr Ross on Radio 5 Live

Discussing the cosmetic surgery phenomenon with presenter Nicky Campbell Mr Ross explained why this type of procedure continues to be popular.

“Social media and the ‘Kardashian effect’ are definitely part of the reason for buttock augmentation’s continuing popularity. It’s most popular with women who want to enhance the shape of the buttocks.”

The interview included discussion on body dysmophia, as well as the importance of undergoing the procedure safely. Mr Ross explained the pros and cons of the procedure, and why seeking expert advice is paramount to the long term health and satisfaction of patients.

“We use the buttocks every day, so it’s important this type of surgery is performed with care,” Gary concluded.

Buttock augmentation options

There are different techniques when it comes to changing the appearance of the buttocks. Some patients want a bigger bottom, whereas others want to lift the buttocks. Depending on what you wish to achieve the technique used may vary.

Fat transfer procedures, such as those using Body-jet, take fat from one area of the body and replace it in the buttocks to improve shape or volume. Liposuction, on the other hand simply removes fat from the buttocks.

Some patients choose to have buttock implants, although this is less common in the UK now with the rise of fat transfer and less aggressive methods.

Mr Ross invites you to book a consultation if you would like to discuss body contouring surgery, including fat transfer and butt lifting surgery.

Abdominoplasty Results – Abdominal Liposuction Scars

Next up in our vlog series we continue our education on abdominal cosmetic surgery. We look further into what happens with the scars after tummy tuck surgery. Abdominoplasty surgery involves the removal of excess fat from the abdominal area. This video goes into further details about what is abdominoplasty surgery and how abdominal liposuction scars change over time after the surgery.

The reason why patients choose to have abdominoplasty surgery is to remove excess skin build up around the abdominal area and in the video, a case study is provided of a patient who chose to have abdominal skin removal surgery involving liposuction due to excess build up of skin. Abdominoplasty before and after photos are provided showing the gradual recovery process long after the surgery has taken place.

Abdominal Liposuction Scars Healing Time

Tummy tuck pictures after 6 weeks are shown and then we see the results of the surgery after 6 months. After the surgery, it is evident that the patient has developed much bruising and scarring judging by the photos. Gradually though, this starts to ease later in the recovery process and we see the patient with more ideal results. Of course, healing from abdominoplasty can be different for everyone. So how the abdominal liposuction scars show in the case study may not necessarily be the same for every patient.

Men are now turning to surgery to get bigger calves

Men are now turning to surgery to get bigger calves

Well, maybe, but that’s really only half of the story because, according to one cosmetic surgeon, the demand for calf contouring among men has gone through the roof over the last five years. During the 90-minute procedure, fat is either harvested from the buttocks and placed back inside the subject’s calf muscles, or silicone implants are used to beef up the lower leg.

Costing up to £8,000, the procedure is now so popular that Dr Gary Ross, a plastic surgeon based in Manchester, says demand has exceeded that of buttock augmentation.

More and more men are having surgery to get bigger calves
