Graeme Perks, President of BAPRAS – It is a great pleasure to welcome you all back to London for the BAPRAS Winter Meeting, following our very successful meeting with the Irish Association of Plastic Surgeons, in Dublin last winter.
The term ‘mummy makeover’ is increasingly being used in cosmetic practice and in the media. For this issue’s Spotlight On… feature, we ask Mr Gary Ross to explain exactly what this involves and how combination treatments can transform the body after pregnancy.
The Clinical Assistants Meeting was held at the Marriott Hotel & Country Club in the Forest of Arden on the weekend of 18th-19th October. This was a meeting is for clinical assistants and GPSIs and was well attended. There are excellent talks from a wide faculty across dermatology, histopathology and plastic surgery. Mr Ross delivered a talk on sentinel node biopsy with the most up to date results from the MSLT sentinel node biopsy trial and discussed the variety of options available to stage patients with melanoma.

I would like to thank the Childrens Adventure Farm Trust and the Brookdale clinic for putting on such a memorable day at Mere Hotel. It is always rewarding to help support charitable events and meet people at the forefront of such a worthy charity. I was not expecting a stage with over 300 people and it was almost my first after dinner speech. I would like to thank the organisers for the opportunity to give my first ever after dinner speech and look forward to engage with the CAFT charity again.

Mr Ross delivered a series of lectures on breast augmentation to consultant colleague at the new cadaver lab facility at the University of Manchester. Mr Ross believes in sharing his experience with colleagues so that patients can be delivered the most optimal results. Johnson and Johnson sponsored the event which was a huge success. It is anticipated that there will be an advanced course that will be developed for ongoing educational support for consultants. This basic course has been a great success over the years and Mr Ross hopes to develop this further at the University of Manchester. The Programme is attached.
Mr Ross appeared on the BBC breakfast show to discuss the Cosmetic Surgery Interface Committees proposals for a registry and certification programme. This aims to provide a registry for patients so that they are able to choose the correct surgeon and be provided with suitable information and be able to make an informed choice as to whether to proceed or not.
