Upper Blepharoplasty VS Lower Blepharoplasty

Upper Blepharoplasty

For upper blepharoplasty, an incision is made in the crease of the upper lid and excess skin is removed from this area. Specifically suitable for sagging eyelids.

Lower Blepharoplasty

For lower blepharoplasty, an incision may be made on the skin below your lashes or within the eye to create a seamless and undetectable incision to remove excess skin in this area.

The decision to have either upper or lower blepharoplasty is based on your unique circumstances, and it is not uncommon for patients to have both treatments.

Very satisfied customer - extremely pleased with the results
Mr. Ross explained everything I needed to know on my first appointment and I felt very reassured and happy to go ahead with the surgery. On the day of the surgery I was very well looked after by Mr Ross and his team and everything went according to plan. I recovered very quickly and within days there was little sign of bruising and although there was still some swelling I was not in any pain. Six weeks on I am extremely pleased with the results.

100% Highly Recommended Surgeon and Team
I Would 100% recommend Mr Ross and his team. From the very first enquiry right throughout this journey I have been treated with care and respect, and extremely well informed. I am so happy with my results , which actually surpass my expectations. My eyes look so open and clear and my whole facial look is refreshed. I had been considering this procedure for quite a few years and after my various meetings, virtual and face to face, with Mr Ross I knew immediately I was choosing the right surgeon to trust. This is one happy patient.

54 Year Old with Excessive (To Me) Eyelid Skin
I'd never thought about having surgery but over the last 6 months I had really noticed how saggy my eyelids had become, I'd also noticed that when I got home from work I had mascara on my eyelids - this finally made my mind up to have surgery. I had 2 consultations where everything was clearly explained to me, the process, the surgery, the aftercare. I had chosen to have a local anaesthetic as I prefer not to stay in hospital, was I a little anxious, yes I was because its the unknown - would I have it done again under local, yes I would. I was made to feel very relaxed in theatre and was told what was happening every step of the way. The care I have received has been excellent from start to finish. I love my eyes, I can't believe how much brighter my face looks, how open my eyes look and I don't have mascara on my lids anymore!
Preparing For Surgery
You will be provided with a detailed pre-surgical plan during your consultations. Mr Ross offers his parents a clear understanding of the surgery, in addition to ongoing support in preparation for the surgery. General preparations include no smoking for 6 weeks before surgery, and stopping the use of aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements.
The Blepharoplasty Surgery
The surgery usually takes between 1 and 2 hours, but this can vary depending on the complexity of the procedure. The surgical method will also differ depending on whether you have opted for upper or lower blepharoplasty. It is recommended to arrange for someone to take you home and support you following surgery.
Post Operative Care
Many patients can go home the same day following the blepharoplasty surgery in Manchester; it's important to arrange for someone to pick you up, and having support at home during the first few days is recommended. Keep the surgical wounds dry for the first week until your follow-up appointment. Maintain an upright head position as much as possible, including during sleep, and avoid hot baths to minimise swelling. It can be beneficial to opt for a surgical pillow to keep your head upright and to prevent you from sleeping on the surgical site. A follow-up appointment will be scheduled for about a week after the surgery.
Side Effects of Blepharoplasty
Common side effects include bruising, swelling and dry/watery eyes. Chemosis and conjunctivitis are usually temporary but can occur, especially with lower eyelid surgery. Gary Ross is one of the most experienced and accredited surgeons in the UK. Patient safety is the most crucial aspect of surgery, and for your eyelid surgery, Gary Ross will ensure all protocols are met. All risks are shared and addressed during the consultation and before your surgery..

Blepharoplasty FAQs

Blepharoplasty surgery is suitable for those with excessive skin and/or noticeable fat deposits. This may be present in the upper or lower areas of the eyelids, causing a tired, aged appearance to the upper face. Additionally, excess skin in the upper eyelid region can even interfere with vision; therefore, removing the excess skin and removing/re-positioning the fat can resolve this issue and improve functionality. Eyelid surgery isn’t suitable for patients with unrealistic expectations, and those with a significant medical history may not qualify. It is essential to declare any history of thyroid disease, glaucoma or previous eye surgery to your eyelid surgeon in Manchester during a consultation.

The cost of blepharoplasty in Manchester varies from patient to patient, as it greatly depends on what exactly is required. If your eyelid surgeon deems you to be suitable for eyelid rejuvenation surgery, you will be given a quote at the end of your initial consultation, which includes all applicable fees.

The results of blepharoplasty surgery, like any other lifting procedure, will last as long as the skin maintains its elasticity. Care around the eye area is imperative in maintaining results for as long as possible; however, ageing factors can influence longevity. Therefore, this is different for each patient, but on average, the results of eyelid surgery can last up to 10 to 15 years.

Brow lifts can, in effect, create a lifting effect on the eyelid; however, it’s dependent on fat deposits and how much excess skin is present. Even with a brow lift, there can be skin left drooping over the eyelid. Mr Ross assesses each patient and provides a professional insight on which surgery or combination of surgeries is best for your case.
