Facial Fat Removal
Facial liposuction is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that removes localised fat deposits from the cheeks, chin, jawline and neck. It uses a thin cannula to sculpt the face, eliminating unwanted facial fat. It brings back youthful facial definition that may have been lost due to natural aging or genetics.
Buccal fat removal is a type of facial fat removal that has grown in popularity over the years with many patients looking to get the surgery to help give them a more defined profile. It extracts a specific deep fat pad from the inner cheek to hollow out the mid-face.
Nights In Hospital
You will typically go home the exact same day once the anaesthesia wears off from your facial liposuction. However, some surgeons may suggest or offer a 1-night stay if you are having extensive work done and have been placed under general anaesthesia.
Recovery
The procedure usually takes 1 to 2 weeks to heal, but supportive compression garments should be worn for up to 4 weeks of part-time or night-only wear. Mr Ross will discuss this with you and suggest recommendations after the routine check-up.
Full Results
Once you’ve reached 3-6 months after surgery, the skin fully retracts and contours to the new underlying bone and muscle structure. At this stage, you can assess the final outcome of the procedure.

You will be asked questions about your health, desires and lifestyle. Different operations can be tailored to your needs and the potential outcomes and the risks and complications will be discussed with you. Various types of facial liposuction procedures are available, which will be discussed with Mr Ross.
The consultation will also include a discussion about the risks and limitations of surgery, so you can choose a procedure that will meet your expectations.
Targeted Treatment Areas
Chin Liposuction
This procedure is often the most popular among patients. It’s designed to help remove submental fat, which can help reduce a double chin and define your upper neck region. This can be paired with a neck lift for a complete look.
Jawline Contouring
This procedure can be completed alongside chin liposuction for a more defined jaw and neck area. Specifically targeting the jowls and the border of the mandible, this type of facial fat removal will create a sharper and more chiseled lower facial profile. A face lift can also help to create a highly sculpted jawline.
Buccal Fat Removal
This type of face liposuction focuses on reducing the buccal fat pads in the lower cheeks to slim down the face while enhancing natural cheekbone visibility. It’s often undergone by patients who are unhappy with their facial structure.
Preparing For Face Liposuction
Facial fat removal may be performed under local or general anaesthetic. Your health is of prime importance and any cosmetic surgery should be postponed if you are unwell for any reason. If there are any changes with your health, you should let us know as soon as possible so we can discuss your options.
It’s recommended that you stop smoking 6 weeks prior to surgery and stop taking aspirin, anti-inflammatory drugs and herbal supplements before surgery. You may need preoperative tests prior to surgery too, which we will arrange if required.
Facial liposuction often takes between 1 and 2 hours. Anaesthetic fluid is placed into the area in question and an incision that is usually less than 1cm is made overlying or close to the area where the fat needs to be removed.
After the Surgery
If your surgery is under local anaesthetic you will be able to move around straight away. However, if you require a general anaesthetic, you will usually return to the ward within an hour following surgery and you will be encouraged to begin moving slowly. You will usually be able to go home the same day and should keep the wounds dry for the next week.
Arranging for someone to pick you up following surgery and have some support at home on discharge is always recommended, as you won’t be fit to drive after receiving general anaesthetic.
You will be reviewed in our Manchester clinic and the wounds will be checked weekly. You should wear a support garment for 4-6 weeks after surgery and you should be able to resume light exercises after a week and normal exercise by 1-2 weeks. Massaging the scarred area once healed should also help with the recovery.
Side Effects of Facial Liposuction
Facial liposuction removes fat cells in the face and although these cells do not come back, other fat cells can occur in the same area. It is unusual to have irregularities, but these can develop over time. Your contour will also change and irregularities can become more apparent with fluctuations in weight. If you are concerned about any side effects of surgery, get in touch with Mr Ross for a discussion about your progress.
Facial Fat Removal FAQs
This type of procedure is highly suitable for patients who are a stable body weight or have developed excess facial skin from weight loss. However, if you have an unrealistic expectation of surgery, you are likely not a good candidate for the procedure. Additionally, if you have an extensive medical history or smoke regularly, you might also be rejected for the procedure.
If you do smoke, then your surgeon will discuss the benefits of giving up smoking months before your procedure. It’s also crucial to keep your expectations reasonable if you’re going to undergo the surgery.
After a consultation with Mr Ross, we will provide you with a quote for your surgery. Once you have your consultation, if the surgeon deems you to be suitable for surgery you will be provided with a quote that includes all fees for the operation, such as hospital, surgeon and anaesthetic fees.
