What Are The Benefits Of Having Textured Breast Implants?

Textured breast implants can come in two different forms of coating; silicone and polypropylene coating.
At Gary Ross, we prefer to only choose the silicone coating when it comes to breast implants as they provide more options. Within the separate coatings there are two types of surfaces which is the textured and smooth surfaces which each have their pros and cons.

Breast implants with textured coating are essentially used to prevent ‘capsular contracture’ which is thickening of the lining of the scar tissue which forms around the breast implant. This extremely common in pretty much every patient and can happen with almost everyone as it’s a biological process that helps to protect the body. However, naturally over time, the layer can thicken which can cause the tissue to develop ‘capsular contracture’ which is essentially the contraption of the capsule. By having textured breast implants, it can help to stop this. This is seen as a major positive as it has been linked with rare conditions such as lymphoma which is why it’s important to discuss the pros and cons of the surgery through your consultation

Anatomical implants are also an option with breast implants which can be popular as they can provide a more natural appearance. The main benefit to these is that they can only come with a textured surface which is why there are certain advantages to having these. It’s important to discuss the different appearances that can be obtained with having these forms of implants.
